Longnsapper Don Muhlbach had played 18 years (!!) for the Detroit Lions and was getting ready for No. 19 in camp.
But on August 17, with NFL teams needing to cut down to 85 players on the roster, he was released.
What’s worse? August 17 was his 40th birthday, and per MLive.com, the news came down “just moments after he was given a rocking chair during a locker-room celebration with teammates.”
Oh no. So awful.
Campbell — known for many a colorful quote while speaking to reporters since becoming the Lions head coach — took responsibility and called himself an [expletive]. WARNING: NSFW language ahead:

“There’s no way to sugarcoat that. I’m an [expletive]. That’s about the best way to put it, and I hate it. There’s no way around it, really. I mean, yeah, you can say there is, but ultimately, that falls on me. It’s my fault, and Don’s a hell of a dude, and that sucks, but it is what it is.”
