Carolina Panthers general manager Scott Fitterer, so far, says what he means and means what he says.
Yesterday, he said the team was monitoring the open market for offensive line depth. And today, he meant it.
On Thursday morning, the Panthers announced the signing of offensive lineman Marquel Harrell. Harrell, 6-foot-3 and 309 pounds, most recently suited up with the Las Vegas Raiders for minicamp and OTAs this summer.
The Auburn University product broke into the league as an undrafted free agent a year ago, having signed on with the Buffalo Bills following five seasons as a Tiger. He was released by Buffalo earlier this year after spending the final five games of the season on the team’s practice squad.
To maneuver back to the 85-man roster limit in making room for Harrell, the Panthers released wide receiver Micah Simon. The speedy wideout out of Brigham Young University first inked himself into Carolina back in March.
