Jason Garrett explains why Giants so strongly believe in Daniel Jones

New York Giants offensive coordinator Jason Garrett breaks down exactly why the organization believes in and has faith in QB Daniel Jones.

The New York Giants believe in quarterback Daniel Jones. From the Meadowlands parking lot attendants all the way up to co-owners John Mara and Steve Tisch, the faith remains consistent.

Outside of team facilities, many believe it’s all a charade. How can the Giants possibly put their eggs in Jones’ basket? Why are they hitching their wagon to an obviously flawed quarterback who was over-drafted?

The Giants have heard it all. And they don’t care.

On Thursday, offensive coordinator Jason Garrett, who has often come off as reserved in relation to Jones, explained exactly why the team has such confidence in their young quarterback. And for the first time, he pulled absolutely no punches.

“Daniel is this guy from Duke who really presents himself beautifully but deep down he’s a really, really tough competitor. He loves ball. His physical toughness and his mental toughness are outstanding,” Garrett told reporters. “He’s a fun and exciting guy to be around. He’s a fun and exciting guy to coach because of that.

“He loves ball. You can see the competitive juices flowing. And the best players I’ve been around — the best teams I’ve been around — really the people I admire most in my life are people that fight.”

“Fight” has been a motto for the Giants and Garrett since offseason activities began. In fact, Garrett has frequently been seen wearing a “Fight” shirt and even had it written in marker on his polo while addressing the media on Thursday.

There is some level of irony to the shirt given the full-team brawl that took place this past Tuesday during practice, but Garrett explained in detail what “fight” means and why Jones has it.

“We talk to our team about that a lot. And the way we talk about the word ‘fight’ is fight to be your best in everything you do. Fight to live up to the highest standards. Fight to get the job done and fight for each other. We think that’s important and we try to instill that in our team,” Garrett said.

“You want to have that spirit. And again, if you think about the people in your life who you admire most they fight. They compete, they battle and they try to be their best regardless of what the circumstances are. And we believe our quarterback is one of those guys.”

Now it’s up to Garrett to build an offense that allows Jones to fully reach his potential, and for Jones to fight his way to the top.
