Philadelphia 76ers 2020-21 season in review: Shake Milton

We now review the season had by Philadelphia 76ers guard Shake Milton.

We continue our look at the 2020-21 season for the Philadelphia 76ers by looking at each player’s season. Having worked through the starting lineup, we turn our attention to the bench unit as we take a look at Shake Milton, the third-year guard out of SMU.

Milton was the primary backup point guard to Ben Simmons, and he was an integral part of the team’s success. He was a big help off the bench when the time called for it despite a few rocky moments.

2020-21 season averages:

13.0 points

3.1 assists

2.3 rebounds

45% overall percentage

35% from deep

Milton did not shoot the ball from deep as well as in the 2019-20 season, but his offensive numbers were still solid. He had a few moments when he did not shoot well. For example, he shot 29.4% from deep in the month of March, but he contributed in other ways.

The best game for Milton came on Jan. 14 when he returned from the health and safety protocols by dropping 31 points and seven assists off the bench in a win over the Miami Heat. In the process, Milton knocked down three of his four 3-point attempts as he gave the team a big spark.

The playoffs were not the best performances for Milton. He averaged 4.3 points and 0.8 rebounds while shooting 31.9% from the floor. He lost his rotation spot to rookie Tyrese Maxey, and there were not a lot of good to come from him in the postseason. The exception: He scored 14 big points in the Sixers’ Game 2 win over the Atlanta Hawks.

Milton has an opportunity to reclaim in his spot in the rotation next season, but a lot of his needed work is on the defensive end. Philadelphia knows what it will get out of him on offense. If he can make the necessary improvements, his work on the other end of the floor is what will have him stand out will be.
