Pittsburgh Pirates at Colorado Rockies odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Wednesday’s Pittsburgh Pirates at Colorado Rockies odds and lines, with MLB picks and predictions.

The Pittsburgh Pirates (29-49) and Colorado Rockies (33-47) play the finale of a three-game set Wednesday with a 3:10 p.m. ET first pitch at Coors Field. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook‘s lines around the Pirates vs. Rockies odds with MLB picks and predictions.

RHP Chad Kuhl is the projected starting pitcher for the Pirates. He is 2-4 with a 5.05 ERA, 1.41 WHIP, 6.4 K/9 and 5.5 BB/9 in 41 IP over 9 starts.

Kuhl has turned things around with wins in each of his past two outings, and both were quality starts, too. He allowed just two runs and seven hits with four walks over the past 12 innings, shaving his ERA from 6.52 to 5.05 just since June 12.

RHP Jon Gray is the projected starting pitcher for the Rockies. He is 4-6 with a 3.97 ERA, 1.26 WHIP, 7.9 K/9 and 3.6 BB/9 in 68 IP over 13 starts.

Gray returned from a three-week stint on the 10-day injured list, allowing just five hits and no walks with a season-high 10 strikeouts across five scoreless innings in a no-decision at Milwaukee June 25.

  • Money line: Pirates +135 (bet $100 to win $135) | Rockies -160 (bet $160 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Pirates +1.5 (-135) | Rockies -1.5 (+110)
  • Over/Under: 11 (O: -120 | U: +100)

Prediction

Pirates 5, Rockies 4

Money line (ML)

The PIRATES (+135) look to salvage at least one game in Denver, and they’re a good bet behind the red-hot Kuhl. Pittsburgh will need to get the bats going, as the Rockies (-160) have recorded rare back-to-back shutout performances against the Bucs.

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

The PIRATES +1.5 (-135) are a strong play if you don’t quite trust them straight up and wish for a little bit of insurance. Truth be told, their scuffling offense hasn’t exactly given bettors much confidence. Of course, baseball is a game of averages, and a breakout is likely right around the corner.

Over/Under (O/U)

The UNDER 11 (+100) is the lean here as the Pirates haven’t scored any runs in the first two games of this series. That’s expected to change here, but Gray looked sharp last time out. And Kuhl has been humming along for the Pirates, too, so a double-digit run total looks to be unlikely.
