Daryl Morey had the most hilarious responses to Ben Simmons trade questions

“Thank you for defining my job description.”

Daryl Morey, man. The 76ers GM has been in the game for a long time. If that wasn’t clear before, it certainly is today with the way he danced around questions about Ben Simmons.

Morey was asked about potentially trading Ben Simmons to improve the 76ers in every single way possible by OG reporter Howard Eskin — a legend in the Philly media market.

Eskin asked him if the possibility “was there to improve the team and that means moving Ben Simmons, that you would do it?”

And Morey absolutely took that and flipped it upside down. It was just an amazing dance to watch.

“I’m not addressing Ben Simmons. But any move that will help our team win the championship or improve our odds, we will look at and do if it makes sense to do that.”

WHEW BOY. Just a classic non-answer. Perfect GM’ing right there. Eskin didn’t give up, though — you don’t make a name for yourself as a reporter without being pesky.

So he tried again. “Will you look at the value of Ben Simmons, as well as any other player on this basketball team, to improve the 76ers?”

Morey got him again.

“So you just defined the job of a general manager, which is to assess everything, assess every player on the roster, figure out what is best to do with them to help us win the championship. So, yes, I am going to operate as the general manager of the 76ers. And I appreciate you defining my job description.

Eskin had nothing left. “OK.” Man. That was hilarious. It’s also exactly what a GM is supposed to do. Morey isn’t going to play his cards on Ben Simmons here regardless if he intends on moving the 76ers’ All-Star or not.

This exchange showed us that. And it was absolutely hilarious to watch.
