As New England Patriots players get their first look at rookie quarterback Mac Jones, praise continues to pour in. With Jones performing well over the past couple of weeks, he’s managed to garner some good reviews from his teammates.
With Jones and Cam Newton taking center stage over the past couple of weeks, teammates have been impressed by what the rookie has brought to the table.
In talking to the media earlier this week, safety Devin McCourty praised the rookie’s poise. With a quarterback battle brewing, that poise will help Jones as he learns to navigate life in the NFL. As ESPN’s Mike Reiss noted in his Sunday notes column, his teammates are taking notice.
When longtime safety and captain Devin McCourty was asked his initial impression of Mac Jones, the first thing he said was that the QB “seemed poised.” That was echoed by other players who noted Jones’ experience at Alabama has prepared him well. “That’s a different position being a young guy, because you’re automatically in that leadership role,” McCourty said. “But I think he’s used to that.”
It will be interesting to see how Jones handles these next couple of weeks with training camp on the horizon.
