Jaguars won’t name Trevor Lawrence starting QB just yet

The Jacksonville Jaguars won’t yet commit to No. 1 overall pick Trevor Lawrence as their Week 1 starter at quarterback

The Jacksonville Jaguars landed one of the best quarterback prospects in recent memory, but they’re not handing the starting job to Trevor Lawrence just yet.

Despite the full expectation that Lawrence will be under center as a rookie in Week 1, the Jags aren’t committing to that at this point, leaving the door open to potentially give Lawrence some time behind incumbent starter Gardner Minshew.

Jaguars passing game coordinator Brian Schottenheimer said Wednesday that it’s “too early to tell” how their quarterback battle will play out in training camp, per ESPN’s Michael DiRocco.

This feels like obvious coach-speak, so don’t be surprised when Lawrence is indeed the Week 1 starter in Jacksonville.
