It’s not a direct knock against the Bills, but Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is certainly confident already about 2021.
Mahomes said he’s looking to go 20-0 next season. With the NFL adding a 17th game to their schedule starting this year, it’ll be the first time a team could possibly accomplish that feat, which would be an undefeated run to a Super Bowl title.
“The only record that I have my eyes set on breaking, which will be new this year, is going 20-0,” Mahomes said according to Chiefs Wire. “It’s not really a record to be broken, I guess you would say. I think 19-0 is the record right now, so being able to go 20 and 0, to be the first one to do that would be awesome.”
Mahomes is wrong about one thing: 19-0 is not the record. The lone undefeated Super Bowl-winning team is the 1972 Dolphins, but that year saw them play three fewer games.
Additionally, the Bills will hope he’s wrong about going undefeated as well, considering the Bills visit the Chiefs on Sunday Night Football next season. That game appears in Week 5.
But we do have to mention that Mahomes has reason to be confident against the Bills because he did beat Buffalo twice last season. Still, in addition to the Chiefs’ meeting with the Bills, they also have the likes of Ravens, Packers, and Browns on their upcoming schedule, too. No walks in the park, and it would be quite interesting if the Browns are the ones to knock off Mahomes & Co. instead of the Bills.
That’s because it’s their season opener.
Imagine talking 20-0 and starting 0-1…
