Fans were thrilled when the Atlanta Falcons signed former Georgia star Todd Gurley to a one-year deal in 2020, but after an up-and-down performance, the former All-Pro running back was not retained by the team when the 2021 free agency period rolled around.
As reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter on Thursday, the 26-year-old Gurley is in Detroit visiting with the Lions.
Free-agent RB Todd Gurley is in Detroit today to visit with the Lions, per source. If he were to sign with Detroit, Gurley would be reunited with Jared Goff and be in the backfield with another former Georgia standout, D'Andre Swift.

In 2020, Gurley rushed for 678 yards and nine touchdowns on 3.5 yards per carry. Despite the high touchdown total, he failed to bring the spark to Atlanta’s ground game — although he wasn’t done any favors by the team’s play-calling and run blocking.
Gurley has a chance to reunite with his old Rams teammate, Jared Goff, who was sent to Detroit along with multiple first-round picks in a trade for quarterback Matthew Stafford last month.
The Lions also have second-year running back D’Andre Swift returning after a promising rookie year.
