Bills quarterback Josh Allen accidently caused a bit of a stir earlier this offseason.
The usual PR-friendly player said he was debating whether or not to get the COVID-19 vaccine as of early April. Some folks would rather have the quarterback vaccinated, while others took the opposite stance, saying that it’s up to him to make a personal decision.
Since then, we haven’t heard from Allen… until Tuesday.
Clearing it up, Allen has now… returned a bit to the safer side he’s used to taking. Allen said “we’re letting everyone make their own decisions” regarding the COVID-19 vaccination.
Additionally, the QB mentioned: “What the right answer is, we’re not sure.”
After his April comments, Allen has decided that he’s going to keep his choice on whether or not he gets the vaccine to himself.
The quarterback was speaking after Tuesday’s practice session via vide conference. His chat followed Bills head coach Sean McDermott’s video interview which took place prior to the workout. McDermott revealed that he did receive a COVID-19 vaccine, but fell short of elaborating on whether or not any of his players had gotten one.
Along with Allen’s previous comments which turned heads, wide receiver Cole Beasley also got into a social media discussion in regard to vaccinations which caught attention, too.
It’s clear that not every athlete is on board with the idea of the COVID-19 vaccine. However, that hasn’t stopped professional leagues, such as the NFL, from potentially putting thresholds in place which would allow clubs to “relax” COVID-related safety protocols.
Per Peter King’s Football Morning in America column this week, if a team hit 85 percent of those in their building vaccinated, they could remove safety protocols.
The thought is that a team without those protocol would have an advantage over another that does. This concept now puts the spotlight back on players and whether or not they should get the vaccine.
At this time, McDermott did not reveal how many on the team had gotten vaccinated, but did say he is “concerned about it” when asked about his team potentially hitting that threshold.
