Will the Washington Football Team make a bold move for their quarterback of the future in next week’s 2021 NFL draft?
According to the latest mock draft by Draft Wire, Washington moves up five spots to No. 14 in a trade with the Minnesota Vikings. In that spot, WFT selects Alabama quarterback Mac Jones.
Surprised Jones is still available?
For so long, many had San Francisco moving up to No. 3 to select Jones, but it just never felt right. Now, betters believe Ohio State’s Justin Fields could be the pick for the 49ers, leading Jones to fall a bit before Washington ends his slide.
This is what Luke Easterling of Draft Wire said about Jones to Washington:
With the New England Patriots lurking at No. 15, this is the spot where a quarterback-needy team will need to jump into if they want to land Jones. The Vikings could hold a bidding war between teams like Washington and Chicago, and assuming they wouldn’t want to help a division rival land a potential franchise quarterback, I’m betting Minnesota would prefer to deal with Washington unless the Bears grossly overpay.
Jones isn’t making it to No. 19. So, Washington moving up just five spots to get its guy is smart. And, with Ryan Fitzpatrick in town for 2021, Jones can sit one year before taking over in 2022.
