Saddiq Bey sets new Pistons rookie 3-point record for a quarter

Bey produced the most points in a quarter by a Pistons rookie since 2012, and set the franchise mark for 3-pointers in the process.

Detroit Pistons guard Saddiq Bey notched a new franchise record on Monday night after yet another hot-shooting night from beyond the arc to help his team to a 109-105 win over the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Bey tied a team-high with 20 points, including 18 alone in the first quarter, in 36 minutes of work. His 18 points were the most in any quarter by a Pistons rookie since Brandon Knight had 19 points in the third quarter on April 17, 2012.

The 19th overall pick finished the contest by shooting 6-of-11 from 3-point range for his fifth game of the season with at least six 3-pointers. His six triples set a Pistons rookie record for the most in a single quarter, which was just one shy of the NBA record set by Coby White last year.

Bey on numerous occasions has etched his name in the team history books.

Last week, he set the Pistons all-time rookie 3-point record for a season while he also holds the record for most triples in a single game by a first-year player with seven. Additionally, his 2.36 makes per game are second-most all-time.

The performance by Bey this season has forced some to seriously consider his standing in the Rookie of the Year and All-Rookie awards races. While he may very well likely fall short in the Rookie of the Year race, making the All-Rookie First Team should be well within reach.
