Evaluating the 2021 roster, Sooners Wire profiles the current players with defensive lineman, LaRon Stokes up next.
Stokes took advantage of the NCAA’s blanket waiver and returned to Norman. The Oklahoma native joined the Sooners as a JUCO acquisition prior to the 2019 season. For his accomplishments on the field that season recording 15 tackles and 4.5 for loss, Stokes was named the Big 12 Defensive Newcomer of the Year.
He missed time in 2020 due to injury but played in eight games (five starts) and accumulated 12 total tackles, 2.5 for loss, one pass breakup, and two quarterback hurries.
Alex Grinch’s defensive front significantly improved last year in pressuring quarterbacks and consistently won the battle in the trenches with a penetration, attack style. Stokes will be back to help solidify the unit.
