The 2020-21 men’s basketball season will come to an end this weekend in Indianapolis with the Final Four and the transfer portal is very hot for those who want to get a fresh start.
On Friday, it was reported by Jeff Goodman of Stadium that Virginia Tech’s Jalen Cone has cut down his list of transfer options. And it could be good news for new men’s basketball coach Micah Shrewsberry, as Penn State is on the list.
Virginia Tech transfer Jalen Cone has cut his list to the following, he told @Stadium.
Oklahoma State, Indiana, Penn State, NAU, Nebraska, Buffalo and Iowa State

Cone reportedly has reduced his list to Penn State, Oklahoma State, Indiana, NAU, Nebraska, Buffalo, and Iowa State. So it would seem Shrewsberry will have some competition his hand for one of his first recruiting battles as head coach of the Nittany Lions.
During the 2020-21 season for Virginia Tech, Cone played in 15 games, scored 138 points, 16 rebounds, and recorded 14 assists in 300 minutes played. Cone scored a career-high 23 points against Louisville.
Penn State is familiar with Jalen Cone as he scored 11 points against the Nittany Lions back on December 8.
Penn State has already welcomed one player back from the transfer portal this offseason with Izaiah Brockington opting to stick with Penn State after exploring his options in the transfer portal. But Penn State has lost Jamari Wheeler to Ohio State and Myreon Jones appears to be heading to an SEC program pretty soon. A number of other players from last year’s roster also remain in the transfer portal with decisions looming.
