It should come as no surprise to anyone who watched him play actual football over the past two seasons, but Justin Fields put on a show at Ohio State’s pro day workout Tuesday, showing off all the skills that make him one of the top quarterback prospects in the 2021 NFL draft.
Fields ran a 4.44-second 40-yard dash, displaying elite speed to go along with his prototypical size and other ideal traits for the position. Fields also impressed during throwing drills, showing off the kind of arm talent that should have teams clamoring to select him early.
While much of the conversation in recent days has centered around other quarterbacks like BYU’s Zach Wilson and Alabama’s Mac Jones, Fields’ performance Tuesday should just be more proof that he’s the second-best quarterback in this year’s class behind Clemson’s Trevor Lawrence, and getting him anywhere after the No. 2 overall pick would be a huge steal.
