Texas Longhorns win the Big 12 championship

The Texas Longhorns won the programs first ever Big 12 Championship by defeating Oklahoma State on Saturday.

For the first time in school history, the Texas Longhorns basketball team has won the Big 12 Championship.
Texas beat Oklahoma State 91-86 to cut down the nets and as the voice of the Longhorns Craig Way would say “Light the tower orange!”

In the first half, Jericho Sims and Kai Jones controlled the paint for 20 of the teams points and 10 of their rebounds, while keeping star Oklahoma State guard Cade Cunningham to only four points and three fouls.

In the second half, Oklahoma State made two long runs to bring the game back to a two point differential and both times the Longhorns were able to regain control of the tempo.

Cunningham had a much better second half by scoring 25 points. However, with strong performances from Jones, Sims, Matt Coleman III and Brock Cunningham off the bench, Texas never lost the lead in the second half.

Matt Coleman III was sensational, scoring 30 points on 71.4% shooting from the field and 80% from three point-range. Brock Cunningham was a big contributor off the bench on both ends, scoring seven points on 100% shooting with seven rebounds, two blocks and three steals.

The Longhorns had been in six other Big 12 championship games, and on lucky number seven, Texas finally wins their first conference championship.

Scoring Leaders:

Matt Coleman III: 30 points, 1 rebound, 1 assist

Cade Cunningham: 29 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists

Jericho Sims: 21 points, 14 rebounds, 2 assists
