Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James was named as one of the 57-player pool for this summer’s USA Basketball program, which is still planning to participate in the 2021 Olympics in Tokyo, which are currently still scheduled to go on as planned.
James is joined by other superstars such as Kevin Durant, Stephen Curry, and Chris Paul on the 57-man roster for this summer. LeBron’s Lakers teammates Anthony Davis and Kyle Kuzma are also part of the player pool.
According to the Associated Press, the United States Men’s basketball squad is expected to play a series of games in Las Vegas before eventually heading to Tokyo on July 19. The Summer Olympics are still scheduled for July 23. According to the NBA’s schedule of “key dates,” the last day of the NBA Finals would be July 22 if the series extends to seven games.
So, it would seem a given that anybody from the two teams that make the Finals won’t be suiting up for the red, white, and blue in Tokyo. While LeBron and other stars on the list, it’s clear that their day jobs in the NBA will supersede whatever commitment they may feel to play in the Olympics this summer.
