The LSU Tigers dropped their first series of the season on Sunday as they fell to Oral Roberts, 3-1.
LSU led 1-0 until the top of the 8th inning when the Golden Eagles’ third baseman Adam Oviedo lined a two-out single through the infield. Right fielder Caleb Denny followed up with a double to plate Oviedo.
However, on Denny’s double, a pair of LSU throwing errors by second baseman Zach Arnold and pitcher Will Hellmers allowed Denny to also scored and gave Oral Roberts the lead.
Oral Roberts would score again in the ninth inning when second baseman Ryan Cash drove in the game’s final run.

Hellmers suffered the loss after giving up two runs, one of which was earned in two-thirds of an inning of work.
The Tigers’ lineup struggled all day, leaving 10 runners on base. LSU’s lone run came in the fourth inning when third baseman Jordan Thompson drove in Arnold.
The Tigers wasted a stellar start from right-hander AJ Labas, who pitched six scoreless innings, allowing five hits and striking out six Golden Eagles.
After the game, LSU coach Paul Mainieri reflected on the loss.
“It’s a terribly disappointing loss, of course, but Oral Roberts competed very well,” Mainieri said.
The loss drops the Tigers to 9-3 on the season, and they return to the field on Tuesday against Texas Southern.
