What Michigan DC Mike Macdonald said in his first media availability

In his first press conference as Michigan football’s new defensive coordinator, Mike Macdonald explained his defense, philosophy and more.

ANN ARBOR, Mich. — Things will look different in Ann Arbor this fall on one side of the ball, as the Wolverines replaced five-year defensive coordinator Don Brown with newcomer Mike Macdonald.

Macdonald comes from the Baltimore Ravens, where he spent eight years — three as the team’s linebackers coach. Before that, he was an assistant — again, behind the scenes — under Todd Grantham at Georgia.

There’s been a lot of speculation about what the first-time defensive coordinator’s defense may look like once the maize and blue line up against their opponents this fall, but Macdonald shared more about what fans can expect — not just schematically, but philosophically and personnel-wise.

Here’s everything he had to say in his first media availability during spring ball.
