The good, the bad, and the MVP: Michigan basketball defeats Iowa

What went well, what didn’t and who was our MVP in Michigan basketball’s big win over Iowa.

Thursday marked another huge game for the Wolverines following the exciting win this past Sunday against the Buckeyes. How could the maize and blue top that effort on Thursday evening against Iowa?

The first half was a mixed bag — defensively it was great, but the offense came out of the gate sluggish. The Wolverines only shot 40% from the field in the first half, and they missed several gimmes under the hoop.

The Wolverines need to thank their defense for keeping them in the first half in this one, as they only allowed the Hawkeyes to shoot 41% from the field. Hunter Dickinson did everything in his power to not allow Garza to score — he literally didn’t score against Dickinson in the post in the first half.

Then the floodgates opened for the Wolverine offense. The maize and blue shot 54% from the floor, and the ball movement that we have become accustomed to seeing was tremendous. The maize and blue continued to play lockdown defense on Garza – who seemingly became more and more frustrated as the game continued.

Michigan ended up winning 79-57 over the No. 9 team in the country. We’re now going to discuss what we liked, what could improve, and the MVP from the game on Thursday.
