NFL QB Index names Bills’ Josh Allen 5th best in league

Where Buffalo Bills QB Josh Allen ranks in NFL.com’s latest QB Index.

Did you start a game under center in the NFL in 2020? If yes, then your name appeared in NFL.com’s latest QB Index heading into the offseason.

In total, 59 players fall on the rating scale, which starts with Packers MVP Aaron Rodgers and concludes with Ben DiNucci of the Cowboys.

But let’s be real, you’re only here for one guy: Josh Allen. In the latest results, Allen slotted in at a very promising No. 5 overall.

Here’s the breakdown on Allen’s ranking:

Josh Allen wrapped his third NFL season having made one of the biggest year-over-year progressions of any starting quarterback in years. He improved his game in nearly every area, leaving us all with the same question to ponder over the next seven months: Just how high does his ceiling go?

Aside from Rodgers at the top, the quarterbacks to finish ahead of the Bills quarterback were: Tom Brady, Patrick Mahomes and Deshaun Watson, respectively. While perhaps a case could be made that Allen deserves to move up a place or two considering he was second in MVP voting, we would just be splitting hairs at that point. This is some great company to be apart of in the top-five, plus, Allen is still ahead of some impressive player such as Russell Wilson (6) and Lamar Jackson (7).

In terms of the AFC East, Allen was also the far-and-away best QB. The next closest was Tua Tagovailoa all the way down at 28 while Cam Newton rounded out the top-32. Sam Darnold didn’t even crack that, as he finished at 36.
