The New York Giants selected fourth overall in the 2020 NFL draft and had 10 selections in total. Looking over the draft class after one season, it’s difficult to determine if this class was a success.
First round pick Andrew Thomas, who started 15 games at left tackle, was one of the worst pass protectors in the league as a rookie last season. Second round pick, Alabama safety Xavier McKinney, broke his foot in training camp and didn’t make his debut until Week 12 and fished the season strong with back-to-back eight-tackle games. Third rounder Matt Peart, an offensive tackle from UConn, played a reserve role along the offensive line, appearing in 11 games.
The Giants’ fourth round pick however, turned out to be a bit of surprise. UCLA cornerback Darnay Holmes was drafted to play the slot for the Giants and he did that very well for them this season.

Holmes appeared in 12 games for Big Blue in 2020, starting five, and made 30 total tackles, defensed five passes, had one interception and one fumble recovery, and recorded two QB hits.
Holmes will be back in the slot in 2021 without a doubt. The Giants will be looking or help on the outside at corner this offseason but they don’t need much else in their secondary.
Pro Bowl cornerback James Bradberry leads the way in a group that included Holmes and Julian Love along with safeties Logan Ryan, Jabrill Peppers and Xavier McKinney.
