In a recent survey conducted by Dave Campbells Texas Football, numerous recruits from the 2021 class chose the Longhorns as the most overrated in-state program.
A total of 32 players were asked which in-state program was the most overrated and why. A shocking 21 of the recruits anonymously chose the University of Texas. While a few of the answers were certainly concerning, many were what we’ve known all along — lack of production.
“They’ve been an average team for a while,” one said. Several other answers centered around not producing enough NFL talent and inside issues with recruiting. “I heard poor things about how the old staff would treat players after signing,” another said.
On top of that, multiple players stated that the Longhorns consistently sign highly rated recruits each year, yet seemingly don’t do anything with them. “They can’t seem to put those super talented guys on the field,” one recruit said.
Considering Texas is one of the most widely recognized brands in all of college sports, you either love them or hate them, therefore this shouldn’t be too shocking. However, it’s absolutely critical that the Longhorns recruit well in-state and this is certainly discouraging in that aspect.
Let’s hope that Steve Sarkisian and his staff are able to turn this around.
