Indiana at Northwestern: Three things to know

  1. Northwestern won at Indiana 74-67 as a 9-point underdog in late December. Wildcats G Chase Audige scored all 17 of his team-high points in the second half. The sophomore accounted for the Wildcats’ final 11 points as they pulled away from a 63-61 lead in the final 3:01.
  2. Indiana is coming off a 67-65 upset of then-No. 8 Iowa Sunday as a 3.5-point home underdog to complete a season sweep of the Hawkeyes. IU won 81-69 as a 10-point dog in Iowa City when Iowa was ranked No. 4. Sophomore F Trayce Jackson-Davis leads the Hoosiers in scoring (19.9 points per game), rebounds (9.2 RPG) and blocks (1.8 BPG).
  3. It’s hard to believe Northwestern opened the Big Ten season 3-0 – beating Michigan State, Indiana and Ohio State – since the Wildcats have since lost 9 in a row. Their most recent defeat was a 75-70 setback at Purdue Saturday, but they covered the spread as 8-point underdogs. Junior F Miller Kopp leads three Wildcats in double-figures, averaging 13.2 PPG.

Against the spread (ATS)

Place your bet(s) on NORTHWESTERN +4.5 (-115). Indiana is a “Jekyll and Hyde” type of team. The Hoosiers look good in an early January win against Nebraska but followed with an awful performance in a home loss to unranked Purdue. After their first upset of Iowa, they lost to Rutgers.

Until the Hoosiers prove they can play well in back-to-back games, it’s not wise to bet on them.

ATS: Indiana 11-7 | Northwestern 7-8

Over/Under (O/U)

UNDER 138.5 (-110) is the STRONGEST PLAY – 1½ times your usual wager. Excluding Jackson-Davis, Indiana’s starters are terrible shooters. Before junior G Rob Phinisee’s 3-pointer at the 1:39 mark and sophomore G Armaan Franklin’s game-winning jumper with 1.8 seconds left Sunday vs. Iowa, IU’s three starting guards were a combined 2-for-24.

At 44.2%, Franklin is the only starting guard shooting above 40% from the field.

Meanwhile, Northwestern has averaged 66.0 PPG during its 9-game losing streak.

O/U records: Indiana 9-9 | Northwestern 9-6
