Ohio State somehow falls a spot in NCAA basketball Net Rankings

Despite beating a top ten Iowa team last week, Ohio State somehow fell in the latest NCAA college basketball Net Rankings.

The Ohio State basketball team just keeps on winning, and as a result, have begun to climb up the national rankings and metric indicators. One of those that are very important to the NCAA Tournament selection committee is the Net Rankings.

These Net Rankings have been around for a couple of years now, and more or less replace the old Ratings Percentage Index (RPI) that the selection committee used to utilize as one of the tools to compare teams when seeding and selecting them for the NCAA Tournament.

And at least in this case, after a win over a top ten Iowa team on the road, the Buckeyes somehow fell a spot from No. 7 to No. 8.

Now, before you get all upset, these rating indexes are incredibly complicated. Not only does what a team does on its own accord weigh into the rankings, but so too does what the body of the opposition does. However, to prove to you how inexact these formulas are, Iowa leapfrogged Ohio State even after losing to the Buckeyes.

The Hawkeyes then went out and promptly lost to Indiana in Bloomington on Sunday, so that will probably be short-lived.

No matter how you look at it though, Ohio State is clearly going dancing in March, and is a pretty solid No. 2 seed right now and can even work its way all the way up to the No. 1 seed line if it continues to win. There’s a tough road ahead, but March could be really enjoyable.
