On Tuesday, Charlotte Hornets guard LaMelo Ball and Sacramento Kings guard Tyrese Haliburton were named the NBA Eastern and Western Conference Rookies of the Month, respectively, for games played in December and January.
Ball became the eighth player in Hornets team history to take home the honor after averaging 12.2 points, 6.1 rebounds, 5.9 assists and 1.5 steals in December and January. He ranked third in points, second in rebounds, first in assists and first in steals per game among rookies.
Meanwhile, Haliburton posted 11 points, 5.4 assists, 3.4 rebounds and 1.1 steals per game on 41.7% shooting from 3-point range during that span. The 12th overall pick ranked fifth in scoring, second in assists, fifth in steals and fifth in 3-point percentage among first-year players.

While Ball and Haliburton ultimately earned the first award of the season, several other players were also considered, including top-five picks Anthony Edwards, James Wiseman, Patrick Williams and Isaac Okoro.
