Nick Chubb is a special running back. In the 2020 season, he proved more capable than any other NFL running back of exceeding expectations on a per-carry basis.

Chubb finished with the highest rushing yards over expected per carry in the NFL in the 2020 season, per Zebra Technologies and Next Gen Stats. Rushing yards over expected, or RYOE, measures what the player is expected to gain on a carry based on the play call, blocking and defensive action.

Chubb topped the list of most RYOE per attempt. He gained 1.75 yards more than expected per carry. Interestingly, Chubb also spent more time behind the line of scrimmage per carry than any other running back, at 3.09 seconds on average.

Chubb finished seventh in the NFL in rushing with 1,067 yards, but he was 14th in carries with 190. Teammate Kareem Hunt wound up with more carries (198) but finished with 841 yards, good for 16th. Chubb did miss four full games with an injury.
