White comes to Tennessee from Central Florida.

His background is extensive, serving as director of athletics at Buffalo (2012-15) and UCF (2015-2021).

At Buffalo, White hired Lance Leipold as the Bulls’ football head coach. He hired Leipold from Wisconsin–Whitewater.

Leipold is 146–39 during head coaching career at Buffalo and Wisconsin–Whitewater. He won six NCAA Division III national championships (2007, 2009–2011, 2013–2014) and two bowl games in 14 years.

Leipold is multiple in his offense.

His offense features everything from 10-personnel, 11-personnel, 12-personnel, goal-line jumbo packages and spreading personnel out to move the ball vertically.

“A lot of those philosophies have always been there,” Leipold said on the show “Tennessee Two-A-Days.” “The philosophies in the room are very similar, and one of the things is, we want to be as balanced as possible and utilize as many formations, but also utilize our personnel in the best.

“If you’re going to win games and want to play games in November, and if you want to play beyond that, you better be able to run the football at certain times, and be able to stop the run. At the same time, you want to be able to spread it out and take our shots down the field.”

During his career, Leipold served as an assistant at Nebraska and Nebraska-Omaha.

University of Tennessee Chancellor Donde Plowman also served in the University of Nebraska system as executive vice chancellor and chief academic officer, and college of business dean at University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

“Danny White is an innovative leader in college athletics with a strong track record in recruiting and developing leaders,” Chancellor Plowman said in a UT press release. “He brings the combination of winning attitude, competitive drive, and dedication to integrity and academics that we are looking for.”
