Texas’ Samuel Cosmi ranked No. 5 offensive tackle in NFL Draft

Samuel Cosmi will be fulfilling his dream of playing in the NFL when the draft finally rolls around.

It won’t be long before the Senior Bowl officially gets started. On Jan. 30, the top seniors in college football will kick off the all-star game where they will be coached by NFL staffs. It’s one of the first steps to kick off the NFL Draft process.

Due to the fact that there won’t be the typical NFL Combine process this year due to the coronavirus pandemic, the Pro Day workouts for each school will be crucial.

It’s particularly important for players declaring for the draft who aren’t appearing in an all-star game. One such player to keep an eye on Texas offensive tackle Samuel Cosmi.

Cosmi was a three-year starter for the Longhorns and likely could have left last season for the draft. Many felt he made the right decision with the amount of offensive line talent in last year’s class. Pro Football Focus released their top five prospects at each position, Cosmi checks in at No. 5.

Top 5 Offensive Tackles per PFF:

  1. Penei Sewell, Oregon
  2. Rashawn Slater, Northwestern
  3. Christian Darrisaw, Virginia Tech
  4. Teven Jenkins, Oklahoma State
  5. Samuel Cosmi, Texas

Panthers Wire recently profiled Cosmi:

Cosmi is one of the top left tackles in all of college football and hasn’t even skimmed the surface on refining his mechanics. With his athleticism and all the room in the world to grow and refine his craft, scouts are starting to get excited about Cosmi. Look for him to be a mid-late first round pick.

Dependent on where Cosmi is selected, he could find a starting role immediately in the NFL or develop as a backup for a year. Either way, he is likely going to make an impact early on in his career.
