Report: Robert Saleh getting second interview with Chargers

The 49ers defensive coordinator is the first reported candidate to get a second interview with the Chargers.

Robert Saleh has emerged as a finalist for the Chargers head coaching job.

According to NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport, Los Angeles is bringing in Saleh for a second interview.

NFL Media’s Mike Garafolo added that there’s a lot of speculation about Bills offensive coordinator Brian Daboll being the team’s next head coach, but they’re going about their coaching search.

The 49ers defensive coordinator is the first reported candidate to get a second interview with the Bolts.

Saleh, 41, is one of the top candidates during this cycle.

This past season, despite losing key players to free agency or injury, Saleh’s unit was the No. 4 passing defense and No. 5 overall defense in the league. In 2019, the 49ers had the NFL’s No. 2 overall defense and top passing defense that reached the Super Bowl.

Before getting the gig with the 49ers, Saleh was assistant linebackers coach in 2010 for the Texans, before moving on to the Seahawks (2011-13) as a defensive quality control coach. Then he went to the Jaguars (2014-16) as a linebackers coach.
