Fans of Draymond Green, particularly those of us who have been watching him since his days with Tom Izzo at Michigan State Basketball, know that he is one of the smartest players to ever pick up a basketball.
What has always been frustrating to me, as a rabid basketball fan, has been trying to explain to people what makes Draymond Green so good. Ultimately, I have often found that people have a hard time analyzing the game outside of points-per-game and highlight reels. What makes Draymond so special is his IQ, his positioning on the court, and his ability to make plays for his teammates. Draymond rarely has an eye-popping stat-line or highlight plays, but he is one of the best players of the past decade and his success proves it.
Over the weekend, Draymond commented on the lack of game knowledge for many NBA pundits in a very interesting press conference:
