Newly hired Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian is surely putting his best foot forward to land the top assistant coaches around the college football landscape.
He’s already expected to hire a few of the most respected position coaches to join his support staff — including Alabama’s offensive line coach Kyle Flood and wide receiver coach Holmon Wiggins.
Although it’s yet to be reported on who will be the defensive coordinator for Texas in 2021, other pieces of Sarkisian’s defensive staff is quickly starting to take shape. Over the last few days, it was announced that former Longhorn safety Blake Gideon would be joining Sarkisian’s staff to primarily work with the safeties and assist with special teams.
Former Texas defensive line coach Bo Davis is likely to return to Austin in the same role, where he found success under Mack Brown from 2011-2013 in developing three players that had 10+ sacks in a single season.
On Thursday, it was reported by FootballScoop.com that Sarkisian is making a strong push to land LSU defensive backs coach and recruiting coordinator Corey Raymond.

It would be a tremendous addition to Sarkisian’s staff as Raymond is viewed as one of the top recruiters in the country. Raymond is the lone remaining piece of LSU’s defensive staff after the Tigers parted ways with defensive coordinator Bo Pelini shortly after the 2020 season concluded. On top of that, LSU will be losing safeties coach Bill Busch and defensive line coach Bill Johnson.
It looks like Sarkisian jumped into Raymond’s ear at the perfect time.
