Browns practice canceled again as COVID-19 continues to spread across the team

Seven players, 5 of whom start but all regularly play at least half the available snaps, are on the reserve/COVID-19 list after testing positive

There was no activity once again in Berea at the Cleveland Browns headquarters and training facility on Thursday. Once again, the Browns were barred from holding a practice in advance of Sunday night’s wild-card matchup with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Quarterback Baker Mayfield has not thrown a ball all week, a fact he mentioned in his press briefing. There have been no in-person interactions between teammates in any structured format for over a week, other than Sunday’s home win over the Steelers that clinched a postseason berth for the Browns.

Head coach Kevin Stefanski is among five members of the coaching staff who have tested positive and can have no direct contact with players. Seven players, four of whom start but all regularly play significant snaps at their position, remain on the reserve/COVID-19 list after testing positive. Safety Ronnie Harrison is the latest addition after testing positive on Thursday, proving the outbreak is not ending for Cleveland.

The team has been reduced to doing walkthroughs remotely and individual drill work at the players’ homes. It’s not exactly the best way to prepare for the biggest game the franchise has played in almost 20 years.
