Former Texas defensive line coach expected to join Sarkisian’s staff in same role

Steve Sarkisian is expected to hire former Texas defensive line coach Bo Davis, who spent time under Mack Brown from 2011-2013.

It’s been less than a week since Alabama offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian was named the new head coach at the University of Texas.

It’s a sure bet that he isn’t getting much sleep these days. Sarkisian is in the middle of preparing for the national championship game against Ohio State, but at the same time he realizes the importance of building a strong support staff at Texas.

It appears any spare time has been spent contacting assistant coaches and forming relationships with current players and recruits. As we’ve reported recently, several well-respected assistant coaches on both sides of the ball are expected to join Sarkisian’s staff in Austin.

On Thursday, Horns247 reported that former Texas defensive line coach Bo Davis is expected to join Sarkisian’s staff in the same role.

Davis ventured to the NFL as a defensive line coach of the Detroit Lions for the last two seasons. His collegiate resume is quite impressive as he has coached under two of the most respected head coaches in college football history — Nick Saban and Mack Brown.

Between his time with Texas from 2011-2013, Davis spent two stints with Alabama under Saban from 2007-2010 and 2014-2015. While in Austin, Davis had three players record 10+ sacks in a season. Since his departure, the Longhorns have had zero players reach that feat.

Sarkisian has done a great job shaping his coaching staff up to this point. However, a critical question remains. Who will be the defensive coordinator for Texas in 2021?
