Where does former Texas RB Ricky Williams rank among recent Heisman winners?

USA TODAY Sports ranked the recent Heisman winners and former Texas running back Ricky Williams slid into the top 10.

Former Texas running back Ricky Williams won the Heisman Trophy in 1998.

No Texas player has won it since.

Quarterback Vince Young was very close to becoming the next Longhorn to take home the coveted award, but he was beat out by USC running back Reggie Bush in 2005.

With the Heisman ceremony approaching tonight, USA TODAY Sports ranked the recent winners and their accomplishments at the professional level.

Williams was included in the top 10 at No. 7 overall. The 6-foot, 225-pound playmaker had a breakout season as a junior, leading the nation with 1,893 yards and 25 touchdowns.

Williams led Texas to a 9-3 record as a senior, set 21 NCAA records and rushed for 2,124 yards and 27 touchdowns. At that point, he was highly-touted as an NFL Draft prospect.

In the 1999 NFL Draft, the New Orleans Saints traded their entire draft to select Williams with the No. 5 overall pick. That was the first time in NFL history that one player has been a team’s entire draft class.

NFL accolades: First-team All-Pro and Pro Bowl selection in 2002

“The New Orleans Saints traded all of their remaining 1999 draft selections to Washington in order to move into position to select Williams. It was a gamble that didn’t exactly pay off (for both sides). While Washington somehow couldn’t parlay that draft pick haul into a run of success, the Saints got two 1,000-yard rushing seasons (plus, an unexpected NFC West title in 2000). A trade to the Dolphins netted Williams a rushing title in 2002 (1,853 yards). After 11 NFL seasons, Williams accumulated 10,009 yards and 66 touchdowns rushing.” – USA TODAY Sports

The players ranked ahead of Williams on this particular list include Derrick Henry, Carson Palmer, Lamar Jackson, Eddie George, Cam Newton and Charles Woodson.
