The banged-up state of the New Orleans Saints receiving corps prompted some fans to hope for a reunion with free-agent receiver Kenny Stills, the big-play threat who made his start with the Saints as a 2013 draft pick out of Oklahoma.

However, Stills instead signed with the Buffalo Bills practice squad, where he’ll have an opportunity to join howitzer-armed quarterback Josh Allen in the playoffs. He still needs to train with the team and elbow his way into the rotation, but he’s in a spot to help out right away if everything goes according to plan. Keep an eye on the Bills’ wild-card matchup with the Indianapolis Colts this weekend to see if he gets on the field.

Interestingly, the Saints are scheduled to face the Bills in 2021. If Stills leaves a good impression on Buffalo, there’s a chance he could suit up against his old team again after posting six receptions for 50 yards and a touchdown catch in two previous meetings (once with the Miami Dolphins, who the Saints traded him to, and again with the Houston Texans, who acquired him in a trade with Miami).

While there was a solid case against the Saints making a run at Stills, owing to his gradual decline in recent years and potentially-crowded Saints depth chart (if everyone gets healthy on schedule, anyway), he probably could’ve helped out. But at this point, we’ve got to shift focus to the players actually on the roster, and it sure sounds like the Saints are expecting some reinforcements.
