Buffalo Bills sign WR Kenny Stills

WR Kenny Stills signed with Buffalo Bills on Monday.

The Buffalo Bills have made their long awaited wide receiver move. The team announced on Monday that wide receiver Kenny Stills has signed on the dotted line.

The veteran wideout signed to the team’s practice squad, as did a former teammate of Bills quarterback Josh Allen, wide receiver Tanner Gentry. The two played together at the University of Wyoming.

In corresponding moves, the Bills released two wide receivers, JJ Nelson and Gary Jennings, in order to make room for Stills and Gentry on the practice squad. Stills’ signing comes as little surprise as it was reported last week that the Bills planned to do so.

The 28-year-old Stills has experience and in wake of injury and COVID issues involving the Bills (13-3) and their current crop of receivers… his name certainly turns heads. Wide receiver John Brown did recently return to the Bills’ lineup on Sunday against the Miami Dolphins, however, Cole Beasley is sidelined with an ankle injury. The issue is considered a “week-to-week” situation for Beasley and Stills does have experience playing inside in Beasley’s spot.

Recently the NFL announced changes to their practice squad rules which is go into effect for the upcoming postseason. Throughout the regular season, a player could only be called up from the taxi squad twice. Moving forward, the league announced players can be called up an unlimited amount of times. So while Stills is on the practice squad, he’s essentially now on the Bills’ active roster.

Stills, a 2013 fourth-round pick of the Saints, eventually made his way to the Dolphins via trade. He then was traded again to the Texans, who cut him in November after he was unable to find a role in their offense. In 10 games in 2020, Stills had 11 catches on 19 targets for 144 yards with a touchdown. In 117 career games, Stills has 310 catches for 4,843 yards and 37 touchdowns.
