Two Longhorns selected in latest DraftWire mock draft

The Texas Longhorns haven’t seen one player taken on day one of the NFL Draft in five years, Draft Wire thinks they have two of them.

With the 2020 college football season for the Texas Longhorns all wrapped up, the players who opted for the NFL will now be the focus.

The annual three-day event that is the NFL Draft is one of the more exciting events that don’t involve actually playing a game. These college players spend years trying to get onto a collegiate roster and then hope to develop into an NFL talent. The Longhorns are no different, they have two players near the top. In recent years they haven’t had a single player rank near the top of draft boards but that has changed.

According to Luke Easterling of USA TODAY Sports’ Draft Wire, the Longhorns have a duo being selected in the first round. That hasn’t happened since 2007 with Michael Griffin and Aaron Ross. Given that the duo play on opposite sides of the ball, that would mark the first time since 2006 when Vince Young and Michael Huff were selected. It could be the case with Samuel Cosmi and Joseph Ossai.

According to Draft Wire, Ossai is the No. 25 pick in the first round to the Tennessee Titans. A team that is having a historically bad year from a sack production standpoint could use a top tier pass rusher. That is what they would get with Joseph Ossai. He would give them a presence on the edge and you won’t find a player who will give you better effort than him.

With the very next pick, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers take offensive tackle Samuel Cosmi. Regardless if Tom Brady returns for another season, the Bucs need to upgrade their offensive line. Why not start with Cosmi? He can play both offensive tackle spots and can help solidify the line. He will also give you athleticism at the position that will allow him to get to the second level to pave the way for their running back.
