Just three weeks ago, many Chicago Bears fans were calling for Matt Nagy’s job following a six-game losing streak that culminated with an embarrassing loss to the Detroit Lions. It was a loss that could’ve lost Nagy his team, but the opposite happened.

Now, there’s a very real possibility that Nagy will be in Chicago for the 2021 season, which has been helped by his team’s response to the six-game losing streak — a three-game winning streak where the Bears are just one win away from clinching a postseason berth.

According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, there are multiple people around the NFL that believe Nagy will indeed remain in Chicago in 2021, with him citing the Bears winning at least eight games in all three of his seasons as head coach and how the team hasn’t given up on Nagy.

Something that has certainly helped Nagy’s case has been the performance of his offense, which has looked like a completely different unit over the last month. The Bears offense has been averaging 33 points over the last five games, where they’ve also eclipsed 30 points in four straight games.

It might’ve taken nearly the entire season, but Nagy finally realized that the offense he was trying to run in Chicago wasn’t working. So Nagy handed over play-calling to offensive coordinator Bill Lazor, which was the first step in the right direction.

Then Nagy went back to Mitchell Trubisky, who has looked like a different quarterback since his benching. The Bears have adapted the offense to fit Trubisky’s strengths, which starts with utilizing play-action with a successful run game.

While Nagy once famously said “they didn’t bring me here to run the I-formation,” Chicago’s offense has thrived with this run game featuring David Montgomery, who has been one of the best running backs in the league over the last month.

With the Bears offense finding success over the last month, the question has always been, what took so long? Now, it’s likely that we’ll see what this new-look Bears offense can do with a full season in 2021. And that’ll possibly include the returns of Nagy and Trubisky.
