One of the Houston Texans’ unlocked picks from the 2019 NFL Draft is tight end Kahale Warring, but the former third-round pick displayed some of his potential Sunday afternoon in the 27-20 loss to the Indianapolis Colts.
The 6-5, 252-pound tight end caught two passes for 32 yards, including a 23-yarder on first-and-10 from Houston’s 47-yard line with 9:59 to go in the fourth quarter. The chunk play led to quarterback Deshaun Watson capping off the drive four plays later with a 9-yard touchdown pass to receiver Keke Coutee.
Watson is pleased with the progress Warring made in the loss.
“He ran two good routes, and he is strong with the ball in his hands,” Watson said. “He’s a guy that you just have to continue to build reps with and confidence. He’s starting to come along. He’s been hurt for the past two years and now fully getting healthy and learning the system and finally getting some reps in in a real live game.”
Warring is an athletic target that complements what the Texans have in speedy options with Coutee and receiver Brandin Cooks. He is also similar to tight end Jordan Akins, who is 6-4, 243 pounds and a yards after the catch threat.
“It was good to see him out there and see his confidence and pumped up about those two catches,” Watson said.
