How can Florida’s defense slow down Alabama’s offense?

Florida Gators’ defense faces its toughest test of the year in the SEC title game on Saturday against the Alabama Crimson Tide’s offense.

Florida’s defensive problems have plagued what has been an otherwise massively successful season. Against the SEC’s elite offenses, like Ole Miss and Texas A&M, it allowed more than 500 yards of offense. Likewise, it has struggled to contain even the league’s weakest offenses, like Vanderbilt and Kentucky.

Facing perhaps the nation’s best offensive team in No. 1 Alabama in Saturday’s defensive unit, it’s hard to like Florida’s odds. Barring a change from the norm, the contest is bound to be a high-scoring affair.

But even operating under this assumption, there’s a number of things the Gators can do on the defensive side of the ball to improve their odds of knocking off the Tide. Here are three of them.
