The Chicago Bears broke their six-game losing streak with a dominant 36-7 victory over the Houston Texans on Sunday. And it was the offense that played an integral role in that success.

Quarterback Mitchell Trubisky had his best game of the season, and the offense continues to look the best it has all year with him at the helm. Trubisky completed 24-of-33 passes for 267 yards with three touchdowns, no turnovers and a 126.7 passer rating.

It’s hard not to wonder what this offense would’ve looked like had Matt Nagy made the decision to go back to him sooner — before he came in for a single play against the New Orleans Saints and suffered a shoulder injury that held him out until Week 12.

While Trubisky still isn’t the future at quarterback for the Bears, he could certainly play himself into a new deal elsewhere or even a short-term deal with Chicago while they draft and develop a quarterback.

But it was also two of his offensive weapons that were the biggest catalysts in the success of Chicago’s offense, which scored a season-high 34 points against the Texans.

Receiver Allen Robinson has been the Bears’ best offensive player for the last three seasons, and he showed exactly why Chicago should’ve inked him to a contract extension earlier this year. Robinson had nine receptions for 123 yards — 88 of those coming in the first half — and a touchdown.

With a 35-yard reception early in the third quarter, Robinson eclipsed the 1,000-yard mark for the second straight season, a feat made even more impressive given the Bears’ struggles at quarterback and overall on offense.

Then there was running back David Montgomery, who continues to make the most out of limited opportunities — even when he’s succeeding. On the Bears’ first offensive play, Montgomery burst free for an 80-yard touchdown run that gave Chicago an early 7-0 lead that they would never relinquish.

Montgomery finished the game with 113 rushing yards — he was over 100 at halftime — on 11 carries (10.8 average) with one touchdown. He also added four receptions for 42 yards. His 155 scrimmage yards were a career-high for the second-year back.

This is Montgomery’s second 100-yard rushing game in the last three outings, and his third recognition as our Player of the Week.

Chicago has an important divisional match-up against the Minnesota Vikings in Week 15, where a win would keep their slim playoff chances alive but a loss would all but end any hopes of sneaking into a playoff spot.
