The Buffalo Bills know the team has a good one in cornerback Tre’Davious White. Even as of late, he’s on fire with three interceptions in the last four games.
Under the surface, there’s one particular important time during contests that White’s thriving at as well this year, per Pro Football Focus. According to the football analytics outlet, White is the NFL’s best cornerback on third down this season:
Coverage Grade on 3rd Downs (CBs):
1. Tre'Davious White – 91.9
2. Xavien Howard – 91.5
3. Joe Haden – 88.3
4. Bryce Callahan – 87.1
5. William Jackson III – 85.6 pic.twitter.com/6n3phmSMDg— PFF (@PFF) December 11, 2020
As a team, the Bills haven’t been great on third downs this year, but like White and his recent interceptions, there’s been improvement as of late. Overall in 2020, the Bills have the 24th best third-down percentage. Their opponents convert at a rate of 43.97 percent. But in their last three games, the Bills lowered that number to 35 percent. White’s efforts have likely helped out there.
We have some further good news, too. The third-best cornerback in this category, Joe Haden, will not play in Week 14 due to a concussion. That’s an advantage the Bills (9-3) will happily take against the Steelers (11-1).
