Coastal Carolina at Troy: Three things to know
- Coastal Carolina is coming off a monster, program-defining 22-17 win last Saturday over then-No. 8 BYU. Cougars QB Zach Wilson — who went into the game with 26 touchdown passes and six games of 280-plus yards passing — was held to a 19-for-30, 240-yard performance by a solid CCU defense. The Chanticleers’ running game did the rest with 281 yards.
- Troy bounced back from allowing 47 points to Appalachian State two weeks back to shut out South Alabama in a 29-0 win Saturday. QB Gunnar Watson threw for 297 yards and three TDs (all three were in the second quarter), and the Trojans defense held USA to 6-for-21 on third- and fourth-down attempts. Troy allowed the Jaguars just 239 total yards, a season-best for the Trojans.
- This game is a rescheduled affair from Nov. 14 (COVID-19 postponement stemming from protocols at Troy). Troy leads the series between these two programs three games to one. Coastal’s lone win in the series came in a 36-35 game — one sealed by a two-point conversion with 30 seconds remaining — last season.

Coastal Carolina at Troy: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks
Prediction
Coastal Carolina 31, Troy 20
Money line (ML)
Troy is in a likable spot here, theoretically. It’s at home after four road games and has played just one at home since October. The Chanticleers are perhaps being on a downward bounce after its relative Game of the Century. PASS on the tag, though. The spread offers better value.
Against the spread (ATS)
TROY +13.5 (-110) is a nice play, especially given a total that has dropped two full points in the lead-up. Coastal Carolina’s defense is good but, at 16.7 points per game allowed, is overrated.
CCU could well be looking to ice a 10-to-20-point lead on the ground late in the game. Give the Trojans just enough of a nod on defense in their ability to utilize the forward pass to counter in a big game at home.
Over/Under (O/U)
PASS ON A TOTAL THAT LOOKS TO BE WELL MADE with just the slightest lean to the Under 51.5 (-110).
