After a dominating win over Kansas State last week, Texas climbed two spots in USA TODAY Sports latest Re-Rank of each college football team.
Considering Texas doesn’t have much to play for after their Big 12 title hopes were crushed on Nov. 27 due to a heartbreaking 23-20 loss to Iowa State in the final minutes of regulation, it was certainly promising to see the Longhorns rebound with a convincing win over a conference opponent.
Texas is dealing with heightened distractions off of the field due to Tom Herman’s future in Austin. While the coaching rumors continue to run rampant across the college football landscape, the Longhorns are hoping to end the season on a high note.
If Texas is able to defeat Kansas in the final regular season game on Dec. 12, the Longhorns will finish with a 7-3 conference record. While the winning record appears attractive, the three inexcusable losses will hinder Texas from appearing in the top 20 of most college football rankings.
In USA TODAY Sports latest Re-Rank, the Longhorns landed at No. 28 overall. If Texas dominates Kansas in the final week, they’ll likely rise another two or three spots. However, that’s not good enough for Texas standards.
Two other Big 12 programs were listed ahead of Texas, while Oklahoma State dropped ten spots to No. 29 overall. Take a look at how each Big 12 team fared this week.
