Report: Matt Campbell isn’t interested in Texas

After Urban Meyer and Dan Mullen came off the coaching wishlist, you can add Matt Campbell. A report states he doesn’t want the Texas job.

Once the report surfaced that the Texas Longhorns wouldn’t be landing Urban Meyer, the future plans for the head coaching position changed. The school administration is currently exploring their options. The Longhorns owe the current head coach $15.4 million if they were to relieve him of his duties this year.

Longhorns Wire explored the idea of replacing Herman with Matt Campbell. Campbell is currently getting his team prepared for the Big 12 Championship where they will face off against the Oklahoma Sooners. If a conversation was to take place, it likely won’t come until after the Dec. 19 game. That allows Herman to sign a majority of the 2021 recruiting class before Chris Del Conte would make a decision, but Campbell likely is making the decision for him.

There is the fact that Matt Campbell isn’t interested in coming to Texas according to Dennis Dodd of CBS Sports. There are two jobs that Campbell is interested in and coming to Austin isn’t on that list. It comes down to Ohio State or Notre Dame.

That makes a lot of sense since Campbell is a midwest guy coming from the state of Ohio. With Ryan Day running the show for the Buckeyes, one shouldn’t expect that job to open up any time soon. As far as Notre Dame, there are reports that the NFL may come calling for Brian Kelly.

If Campbell waits it out, he could be heading even further north to South Bend, Indiana. Any idea of Campbell might be a moot point as far as Texas is concerned.
