The National Basketball Association announced some expected, but still impactful news on Wednesday evening regarding players around the league and how many of them have tested positive for the coronavirus. The NBA is expected to release the first half of their schedule on Friday and teams will be both training and living in their home markets. Training camps across the league begin this week and with players coming back to their markets, the testing across the league has begun, resulting in positive cases across the league.
The NBA announced on Wednesday that out of 546 players tested in the past week, 48 of them (8.78%) have tested positive for the coronavirus. While the infection rate is not encouraging, it’s lower than the current national average of 10.2%.
Anyone who has returned a confirmed positive test during this initial phase of testing in their team’s market is isolated until they are cleared for leaving isolation under the rules established by the NBA and the Players Association in accordance with CDC guidance.
The league started training camps and media week’s across the league on Monday.
