Cardinals place Larry Fitzgerald and Trent Sherfield on COVID list

Fitzgerald is out for Week 12 and likely Sherfield too.

The Arizona Cardinals made only one roster move on Thursday. After the report that receiver Larry Fitzgerald tested positive for COVID-19, he was placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list. He was not the only one, though.

Along with Fitzgerald, the team placed receiver and special teams ace Trent Sherfield.

Fitzgerald and Sherfield are the second and third players to land on this list this week and the fifth and sixth this season. Safety Deionte Thompson was placed on it at the beginning of the week after the mini-bye.

The COVID list is for players who either have tested positive for the virus or who have been quarantined after having been in close contact with an infected person or persons. Teams must immediately place them on this list and they remain there until they are deemed clear.

For someone with the virus, it is after symptoms have cleared and there are multiple negative tests. Asymptomatic players who tested positive must be out at least five days and have multiple, consecutive negative tests.

Fitzgerald will not be able to play this week and his status for Week 13 against the Los Angeles Rams is uncertain. Sherfield likely will be out this weekend as well.

The Cardinals currently have only 49 players on the active roster.
