A loss wasn’t the only thing that was disheartening for the New England Patriots on Sunday. The team fears that Rex Burkhead tore his ACL on Sunday, according to The Athletic’s Jeff Howe. Burkhead will get an MRI to confirm this injury.
This is a tough break for a Patriots backfield that had been featuring Burkhead a lot as of late. For this season, he had 63 rushing attempts for 257 yards and three touchdowns. He was already pretty close to eclipsing the 300 rushing yards and 65 rushing attempts he had last year.
On Sunday, he had four carries for seven yards prior to his injury.

The Patriots have depth at the running back position, as the likes of Damien Harris and James White should supplement the New England rushing attack. Even still, this is a tough break, as Burkhead was valuable in third-down situations and in the passing game.
